Not long after, Rob Leifeld and Todd McLarlane (who assisted Liefeld with the initial Cable artwork) both left Marvel for IMAGE COMICS--so as a parting shot to Liefeld, Marvel Comics let a report circulate that New Mutants 87 WAS NOT the 1st appearance of Nathan (AKA Cable)!
