In his travels as "Crazy Ed" over the last 20 years at National Conventions Ed has acquired some excellent--some REALLY KILLER COPIES OF KEY AND SEMI-KEY SILVER & BRONZE (even GOLDEN) AGE ISSUES!
HERE IS Detective Comics STARRING BATMAN and ROBIN!
Issue #289 from March 1961
- The issue falls in the period of early 1961 right before the price went from 10 to 12 cents-its called a "block 10 Cent cover."
- This issue features the BAT-MITE. The art was done by Sheldon Moldoff . There is a back-up J'onn J'onzz story
- Issue appears to be in mid-grade; overall FN 6.0 to FN+ 6.5 The cover has vivid colors and only minor spine stress wear and light visible edge wear.
- There
is a light crease on the top right corner. The top right corner has a
bent tip. There is a nick about the size of a pencil point above the
"D" in Detective.
- The
centerfold and staples are in great shape and firmly attached.
- The
Back
covers
is relatively clean, with more off-white areas than anything else.
There is a tiny stain on the cover near the bottom staple. The inside
covers are off-white to white. The interior pages are
supple and WHITE.
Overall a solid pretty, well preserved Silver age classic--checked
very carefully for completeness! To assist you in evaluating the book, we provide scans:
- of both front and back cover(s)
- close up of all 4 corners
PRICING NOTES:
- The 2009 Overstreet guide value in 9.2 Near Mint minus is $250.00. The 2009 Guide is already 14 months old and the new 2010 guide is not due for publication until July 2010!
- A copy in 6.0 would guide for $60.00. The book readily appears higher grade than a FN 6.0
- The
issue may be scarce to acquire this nice a copy at this low price; nice
looking Batman pieces are readily over-valued by their owners, and
subsequently over-graded, and therefore overpriced, by Sellers with
less grading expertise or conservatism.
A collector looking to fill a run of DETECTIVE COMICS from the Silver age, or a BAT-MITE fan will be thrilled with this book!
