For Superman fans, this is about as in-between "1st Code era" and
"Early Silver age" a basically rough but COMPLETE copy of ACTION
COMICS #229, from June 1957.
Besides a Superman story (cover art
by Al Plastino, interior art drawn by Wayne Boring, the issue has a
Congo Bill (by Nick Cardy) and a Tommy Tomorrow (by future Supergirl
artist Jim Mooney) futuristic science tale. The issue has several
features, a cartoon,a quiz, articles about Science and fire prevention,
even an ad for "SGT. BILKO" #1. A Classic Eisenhower era (later called
'baby boomer') comic!
This copy of Action #229 is a book only
for a devout fan wanting to fill a collection of complete and restored
Superman comics. It could not be graded higher than 2.5 but probably
due to the cover chips would be 2.0 Good. It has minor tears inside and
out, folds and the corner chips. BUT it has no tape, cover or interior
writing or other usual problems! The cover colors are still vivid;
the interior was carefully
checked for completeness. The centerfold and staples, surprisingly and
pleasantly, are still well attached. The
Back cover is shown and has a tear on the edge and a stain, both shown.
The interior front cover is shown so the staus of "solid" and attached
staples to cover is seen; and the interior pages are supple cream to
off-white. Overall, it shows normal 50 year+ wear and for the grade
range is still vivid and solid.
